I don't think the X-Pod is quite large enough to accommodate my EDC (i.e. That version it least looks a bit more techni-cool. If I was to get it, I'd have to go with the X-Pak. The Bravo Max is the one that can fit a laptop, but pretty sure it can do the 16" which makes it all the larger. Wow, very well put - thank you again for the detailed explanation!Īlpaka make well designed slings, but the larger ones were a bit too large in my eyes. I like companies that do one thing really really well and keep it pretty simple but tough. They're pricy but I like buying something that's going to last for years and years so that ultimately becomes less of a concern. The design, material, and buckle choices are in my eyes impeccable. Their build quality is in essence unrivaled. Lastly Defy make practically bombproof bags. And the mini doesn't have a stabilizer, and reviews say it doesn't stay in place. The chrome Kadet is also big enough, but too big in my eyes. Which sadly ruled out the Trakke Largo too which is another great one. So I arrived at sort of a squarish design because the typical sling form doesn't render the entire pocket usable because of the pocket geometry. I've had slings that swing and don't stay in place and that's a deal breaker. One was that it would be big enough to hold a tablet or other relatively large piece of tech. Ultimately there were two major boxes i wanted to tick. I see it as a complement rather than a replacement for the bag i got.ĪER is also fantastic but i wanted something bigger. I'd pick it up in a heartbeat but i want a bag now, not in July. The X-Pod is truly incredible and it's still on my radar. And the design is just okay in my eyes.ĬOFB wow what a brand. Also I'm not a fan of the USB ports on the outside of the bag, I don't really see the point, and i don't really want to give off the gamer-dad vibe. The full size insidious does accommodate the Mac Air.Īlpaka make well designed slings, but the larger ones were a bit too large in my eyes. Glad you appreciated it, I tried to keep it as brief as I could. And it's got an optional stabilizer strap that was a big selling point for me too. It's got everything i could ask for and more. Beautiful, built like a bomb, fantastic storage. Ultimately i ended up going for the Defy Insidious Jr in texwax. Alpacka make some really nice slings too. Worth mentioning might be the chrome Kadet and the chrome Kadet mini. Trakke Largo, man this one was appealing. The design is beautiful and crazy modular, but seems perhaps a bit too much for most people. Code of Bell X-Pac is an overengineered marvel of daily carry, if not overly so. Tom Bihn LGD is a beast, designs a bit funky in my opinion. Large slings is where i spent most my time. Also Peak Designs everyday sling comes in 3L, 6L versions. Medium size you could check out the bellroy sling. Modern Dayfarer is a great choice too, didn't fit my design preferences but I'm sure it'd work for someone else. Size, storage or organization, how well the bag sits, material choices, and design.įor smaller slings you have the Aer city sling 2 and the Aer Day Sling 3, both fantastic choices. I recently went down a rabbit hole on slings as i was looking into getting a new one and tend to over engineer these kinds of decisions.Īnyway it boils down to a few key points. Really expensive for me as I had to pay $US conversion and duties, so it was about $200 for me, so I better LOVE this thing.Man it's such a tough question. I feel like this is an inherent risk of this type of material, or maybe I am completely wrong. I am concerned about the fabric getting that "rug burn" look to it if it gets rubbed against something. I LOVE the organization and compartments in the city sling 2, there's just so many places to put things. The thicker strap of the city sling 2 is more comfortable than the Mantis, the Mantis strap is about half the size The zipper pulls aren't that easy to pull, sometimes they stick and you can't one hand them, it may be because it's so new The material is definitely harder than ripstop nylon, so it doesn't feel as comfy on my back as my Mantis, but it could just need some breaking in It was just a tad too small for my use-case but it was a pretty solid EDC, but I wanted something bigger. It's my first sling from AER, my previous EDC was the Arcteryx Mantis 1, 1.5L.
